Dan Egger-Belandria represents new-generation Latino musical expression. Although born the U.S., his family heritage and childhood are tied to Venezuela where his spark for tropical music and percussion began. As a result, the performance options he offers are dynamic and flexible.
Having studied throughout the Americas with drumming masters Adel Gonzales (Chucho Valdes, Afro Cuban All Stars), Miguel "Angá" Diaz and Enrique Plá (Irakere), Amadito Valdez and Carlos Gonzalez (Buena Vista Social Club), Modesto Cepeda (director/Escuela de Bomba y Plena de Puerto Rico), including jazz at the University of Missouri, he is a skilled conga, bongo, timbale and drum set musician.
Dan has recorded and performed in various musical genres, including opening acts for Latin-jazz superstar Poncho Sanchez and reggae-great, Burning Spear. He is the band leader for the Austin-based Latin jazz group Señor Gato and the creator of the AquaDrums performance, which he has toured throughout the nation as part of the 2007 Bacardi B-Live tour. He also performs with the Austin flamenco group Sonido Sol.
Dan has made a life-long commitment to the art of Afro-Cuban and Caribbean music, his journey theatrical and dancing as well as accompanying DJs in various musical styles ranging from salsa to rock; house to reggaeton; calypso to samba.
